Traumatic brain injury can occur from a fall or blow to the head, from ischemia (lack of oxygen/blood flow) of brain tissue secondary to a stroke or a jarring of brain tissue. A variety of visual disabilities are associated with brain injury. The eyes can have trouble focusing, teaming and/or tracking. The visual perception system is often affected. The visual disabilities can manifest as double vision, inability to focus, severe eye strain and fatigue when reading and/or poor tracking and comprehension while reading. Vision therapy could be a possible solution for these disablities. Optometric vision therapy is a medically approved treatment modality which is rehabilitative in nature. Vision therapy involves technique using a variety of different lenses, prisms, filters, and stereoscope to rehabilitate the dysfunctions of the visual system caused by traumatic brain injury. Optometric vision therapy, along with occuaptional and physical therapy, play a vital role in rehabilitation of the brain injury patient. Dr. Amin is a proud member of the Brain Injury Association of Arizona! |
